Londonderry’s Daryl Gurney celebrated his second round win at the PDC World Championship over good friend Ricky Evans by serenading the crowd at Alexandra Palace with a rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’.

S uperChin secured his place in the post-Christmas action with a 3-1 victory over the Englishman and then hosted his own karaoke session as a form of victory lap, singing Neil Diamond’s hit tune, which is also his walk-on song.

At the oche, Gurney needed some good fortune to avoid a deciding set, hitting six of the match’s nine 180s but only avoiding a fifth set thanks to Evans missing three darts to win the fourth when tied 2-2 on legs.

Instead, the 35-year-old Ulsterman hit double top at the third time of asking to book his spot in the third round after averaging 95.11 and hitting 11 of his 26 doubles.

Meanwhile, Carlow’s Steve Lennon defeated Madars Razma 3-1 in his first round clash to set up a second round tie with 12th seed Krzysztof Ratajski this afternoon.
