Who Needs Russian Oil?

How hard would a US/EU ban on Russian oil hit the world – and Russia?”

According to the  latest UN Comtrade data, the combined effect of a US-EU import stop would be significant despite China being the largest recipient of Russian oil by a large margin.

Even just taking into account the countries included at the top end of this list, a ban would remove over 40% of Russia’s trade value from oil exports.

Counting the imports from all EU countries and the United States, this figure is more than  48% – trade worth $35 billion in 2020.

How much of the increase is due to speculators?

Without drill bits Russia won’t have any oil to sell, toot sweet.

I thought Russia made its own drill bits

I’m sure they can get cheap Chinese counterfeit drill bits, just like they did with the tyres on their armoured vehicles in Ukraine. Like the tyres, they might not last very long though ..

Drill bits are imbedded with ~50 one centimeter black diamonds. I would not be surprised if the steel is proprietary .
