Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

One of our favorite concrete accessories is Bosch’s HDC200. It’s an adapter for your dust extractor to collect concrete dust as it exits the hole when you’re using a rotary hammer. The fact that it works with anyone’s rotary hammers and bits means we don’t have to carry a bunch of tool-specific collection devices. The Bosch HDC250 shares many of the same characteristics, but it has a slightly different function.

You’ll notice the Bosch HDC250 has a much larger opening. That’s because it’s for use with core bits up to 6 inches in length. Out of the box, you can cover 1-1/2-inch to 5-inch holes. You just remove the brush ring if you’re working in the 5-inch to 6-inch range. Thanks to the removable design, you can also replace the brush ring when it wears out without replacing the entire attachment.

Like the HDC200, this core bit accessory has two chambers. One isolates the collection area to contain the dust and the other gives it suction to stick to the floor, wall, or ceiling. It’s a huge help when you’re drilling vertically or overhead.

In order to work properly, you’re going to need enough room for the shroud to be completely on your drilling surface. If it’s hanging off the edge, you won’t get a proper seal, dust can escape, and it won’t stick.

Fortunately, the footprint isn’t that large (12 inches x 7-3/4 inches) and there aren’t many times where you have to core drill so close to an edge or corner that it will be a problem.

The shroud fits Bosch’s 1-3/8-inch standard dust extractor nozzle. It has plastic locking detents that keep it from coming undone while you’re using it. If your extractor nozzle has a different diameter, you can grab an adapter to make it work without a problem.

Expect prices to run right around $59.
