Rollomatic has introduced the LaserSmart510 Femto for processing tungsten carbide and other ultrahard materials. Its laser source has a femtosecond pulse width, which is 1,000 times faster than a picosecond laser. According to the company, this is the only femtosecond laser cutting machine designed for ultrahard materials.

The system achieves surface finishes as low as Ra 40 nm and produces crisp, sharp cutting edges. According to the company, it improves finishes on 3D-machined drills and end mills, at 30% faster feed rates than conventional laser machines.
