The Blackhawks face the Red Wings on Saturday night at the United Center for their third preseason game (TICKETS ).
Ahead of Saturday's game, the Blackhawks are hoping to build on Tuesday's 4-2 road victory against Detroit as they reach the halfway point of the preseason slate.
"We were more aggressive [against Detroit on the power play]," head coach Luke Richardson said. "We don't want to wait for another team to get settled. We want to jump on them early, and that's to make sure we practice it and have a good plan."
Patrick Kane voiced his support for Richardson's concise and straightforward approach to coaching, stating the ease and quickness to focus on different skillsets during shorter practices.
"You get what you have to do done, and then you can move onto the next drill," Kane said. "Even in the games, we've been fresh [because] we've been doing what we have to on the ice and not killing ourselves out there."
Richardson explained that with these types of practice he hopes that the team can emulate teams that play with more pressure. Tyler Johnson compared the Richardson's system to what he experienced during his time in Tampa.
"We're all about pressure," Johnson said. "I like that. I think our entire team can skate. Our [defense is] very mobile just like how Tampa is. [Our] d-zone's a little bit more on the Colorado [Avalanche] side of things. There's a reason why those teams were in the finals. They're both pretty good teams to try to emulate."
